Friends of the School
Who are we?
As our title suggests, we are friends and supporters of Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Alford. Most of our members are parents of children at the school but non-parents of all ages and gender are positively encouraged to join us.
What do we do?
We fundraise for the school. This is done mainly through traditional school based events such as social evenings, fetes, raffles, but we are always looking for new ideas. We aim to raise about £3000 each year and all this money goes directly to the school to spend for the benefit of the pupils.
If you join the ‘friends’, what is your commitment?
Please only give as much time as you can comfortably spare. Any offer of help is much appreciated. A sample of what you can do is listed below – please pick and mix:
- Help at an event, doing a job you are comfortable with. We have the Christmas fete on a Sunday early in December between 2pm-4pm. Can you help or supply things to sell?
- Join the committee and help to plan, organise, and run events
- Volunteer to organise an event yourself, with full support of your colleagues in the ‘Friends’
- Run a home based fundraiser e.g. coffee morning, garage sale, party, etc. This is especially useful for groups that live at some considerable distance from the school
- Donate cash….. or prizes to our raffles
- Attend our events
- Suggest some new fundraising ideas
What do I do next?
Write to me via the school, or give me a call on 01507 490318, or e-mail me on simcoxdm@onetel.net
The school needs your involvement. Please respond in some way to the above list, even if it is only to confirm that you have read this note and will or will not be able to help in some way
I look forward to hearing from you.
