Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Alford, is a Foundation status 11-18 selective school, currently having approximately 550 pupils on roll. The school is a very friendly and caring community in which pupils are known individually and valued. We provide a calm, happy and purposeful atmosphere and strive to help all pupils to achieve their full potential.

In March 2007, following an Ofsted inspection, we were delighted to receive the top rating, ‘OUTSTANDING’.

The report included the following comments:

“Pupils make exceptional progress”

“Pupils’ personal development is outstanding. They have exemplary attitudes to their learning. Their behaviour and attendance are excellent. Sixth form students … provide impressive examples for others.”

“The school’s care, guidance and support are outstanding.”

As a Business & Enterprise College (since September 2004) students are encouraged to be enterprising and most departments have good links with the business world. Students in Year 9 and above can set up their own businesses, trading in school, and there is a venture fund to support them. As a high-performing Specialist School, we have also been selected to become a Training School. This will benefit the school and the community by:

Developing further professional research into learning and teaching
Offering further courses for the local community
Providing a centre of excellence for training and for sharing good practice widely.

We are very proud of our students and their wide-ranging achievements. Over the last year these have included:

100% of last year’s Y11 students gained 5 or more GCSEs at grades A*-C (over the past 7 years either 99% or 100% of our students have met this national benchmark)
100% of last year’s A Level students passed their exams, with 65% of all grades being at A or B.
Value-added through all key stages is high.
In our Charity Week we raised £3,000 for the Lincolnshire Air Ambulance Appeal
Pupils and staff have established an eco-garden in the school grounds
A group of Upper School students completed a week’s work placement in Conlie, our twin town in France, in addition to our annual exchange, which is open to all year groups
We also organised a successful German exchange visit with students at a Gymnasium (Grammar) school in Berlin
Our team was among the national finalists in the Jaguar Car Maths Challenge
We were national finalists in the New Schools to under-13 Boys’ Rugby Tournament
Our Y10 Basketball Team became District Champions
A team of Y12 Maths students won the County Airport Challenge
We staged a highly-rated school production of Toad of Toad Hall
